SO CLOSE

Road in, buildings to fit around.
I went onto google maps to find a road pattern that already existed - the one is from around cheltenham.
added road from texture and cut out with the lasso tool. altered road design so building are bigger.

added background in soft green. added trees and plants. added overlay on road to soften.

some extra added, tweaked.....
ready to send to the print?????
only a bottle of cola, 2 large pizzas, 5 cups of tea and 6 hours later.........

playing with pavements

looks busier ..... I think the attention is scattered and that the textures are too much on this design - pavements are a good idea however this is a car mat and unlikely tiny people will walk on them. It would be ideal if the children playing on it had barbie dolls or lego men that they want to include in their imaginary world. .... However it doesn’t look right, far too crowded.
That means more playing!

more road thoughts and experiments....

I started off with the road, cut from a map texture, then placed the houses around it.
I have fitted them all on which I'm quite glad they do, although i am going to keep tweaking them until i am happy with it, then send to print. I want it to look amazing!

pencil sketches.... very grubby hands

I have collected buildings from my trips around the south west - most notably was a trip to Winccombe in the Cotswolds. Each house had beautiful bricks and wonderful untypical shop front layout.
I have also been to Bideford near my hometown, where again, the modernity hasn't quite caught up with it yet. I find interest in the independent stores- after all why bother to travel if all high streets look the same with the chain shops? No, i want to see a different street in each town.
Cheltenham, where I am studying, has also given me buildings. Originally i was planning to just use Cheltenham buildings but i have found inspiration from many places.

My buildings are slightly altered from the original structures.

ROADS AND LAYOUT

my eyes are burning!!!

140x 100 cm... the size of the fabric in length  ... this is where i realised i will have to make the buildings smaller or maybe make another mat.....

Playing with creating roads.... here with simple airbrush tool in Ps

the road layout.... something not great about this but lets say we're setting the tarmac down...

Mat 2 with the other houses and shops on it.... i thought of this more as the hamlet or bit just outside the main town centre.

Experiment with textures that I remembered i had a gallery of. This looks quite nice.

Experiment with map texture......... interesting interesting.

eh? maybe? needs tweaking but feeling good with getting this done. will try all the houses on one mat and make them smaller...... I like the size of the houses but they feel a bit sparse......
